Dark Witch – Nora Roberts

06 Nov

Iona Sheehan grew up never feeling like she belonged. Her parents were indifferent to her existence. She began to seek out a new life for herself, taking a trip to Ireland that will change the course of her life forever.

While spending a week in a luxurious castle, she finds two of her cousins. They invite her into their home and she soon realizes these strangers have welcomed her into their hearts. Not wanting to give that up, she decides to stay and Conner tells her of an opening at the stables next to his aviary. She is thrilled to know this because she has an ucanny knack for horses. Just as quickly, she is welcomed into the lives of the people who work at the stables. Her talent does not go unnoticed and her rugged dreamboat of a boss begins to take notice, not only of her work, but of her in general.

While Iona is thrilled to have so many people opening their lives to her, there is also a darkness that surrounds this happy union. A curse, an ancient evil that is bent on destroying her newfound family. The three will stand and fight, just as their ancestors did, and this time hope to succeed.

I may have said this before but Nora Roberts is my guilty pleasure. Her books have just the right amount of suspense and paranormal to keep me interested. I loved this book. I have recommended it to so many people. Everyone always asks me “If I want to read paranormal romances, where should I start?” I always tell them to pick up something Nora Roberts. Whether it be this or Morrigan’s Cross or many of her other series, there seems to be just that little dose of the paranormal. It’s a good start for anyone wanting to take on the genre but not be overwhelmed by the lore or back story.

Favorite Quotes:

“You can’t just hope for happy endings. You have to believe in them. Then do the work, take the risks. Slay the dragon—though I really think dragons get a bad rap—kiss the princess, or the frog, defeat the bad witch.”
Nora Roberts, Dark Witch

“What’s an adventure if you know all the steps before you take them?”
Nora Roberts, Dark Witch

“Love shouldn’t be hard.” “There I think you’re wrong. I think it should be the hardest thing there is, then it’s not so easily given away, or taken away, or just lost.”
Nora Roberts, Dark Witch

“From this day forward, she thought, this was home. One she’d make herself, for herself. This was her life, one she’d live as she wanted. If that wasn’t magick, what was?”
Nora Roberts, Dark Witch

Love just about anything Nora Roberts, including this one, although Morgan’s Cross is top of my list, followed by a non magical ‘Witness’ that she also wrote. She is a very prolific writer with a great imagination.
